Cancer is a dreadful word that everyone is scared of. When it is diagnosed, the most important question that comes to the mind is if it can be cured. The disease primarily involves abnormal or uncontrollable growth or multiplication of cells. Cancer can be categorized into four stages, from Stage 1 to Stage 4. Chances of survival also depends on the type of cancer and the overall medical profile of the patient. Here are some of the most common types of cancer that are curable:

1. Breast Cancer

As the name suggests, breast cancer develops in the breasts. Initially a lump may appear anywhere on the breasts or armpit. The other common signs to look out for are redness of the nipples or some discharge from it, any uneven texture of the breast skin like dimpling or puckering, soreness in the lymph nodes present in the armpit or neck, any noticeable change in the breast or nipple's shape or size. Although what causes breast cancer is not fully clear, doctors believe that the abnormal growth of some breast cells leads to the accumulation of cells into mass or lump which ultimately leads to cancer formation. It may sometimes be inherited as well, due to faulty genes. Other common causes are sedentary lifestyle, hormonal issues and external environmental factors. Regular self-examination of breast is important to rule out its possibility of occurance. For detailed examination, the methods adopted are ultrasonography, mammography and clinical biopsy. Mammography is form of X-ray which is used to detect the possibility of breast cancer. The treatment of breast cancer may vary according to the severity or stage of the disease. The treatment methods mainly involve surgery, chemotherapy and radio therapy. The survival rate of breast cancer depends on the stage of the disease. If detected at the early stage, the survivsl rate is almost hundred percent. It comes down to about twenty percent by the time the patient reaches the fourth stage.

2. Thyroid Cancer

Shaped like a butterfly, the thyroid gland is located at the front of our neck and plays a larger role in oour endocrine system, which is related to the secretion and regulation of hormones in the body. When a person has thyroid cancer, it bocomes apparent due to the abnormal cell division taking place in the gland. 3. Testicular Cancer

Testacular cancer is completely curable through surgery if it is in its initial stage and is yet to spread to the other parts of the body. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops in the melanin producing cells called melanocytes. Most of the times, they form in the skin. However, there are cases where they may develop in areas like eyes, mouth or some internal organs. Although the causes of melanoma have not been co-related with anything, exposure to sunlight and its ultraviolet(UV) rays increases its chance to develop.

Early detection of melanoma increases its chances of cure. When it is at its early stage and remains within the skin and has not spread to other parts of the body, it is easy treat. If it has affected a portion or just a layer of tissue beneath the skin, it can be removed with the help of a small surgery. And if it has spread to any lymph nodes, they can also be removed surgically. Radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy are other treatment procedures for melanoma. When melanoma becomes metastatic or spreads beyond the skin to other parts of the body, or becomes recurrent, just surgury will not be enough. For melanoma which cannot be cured completely, certain clinical trials are offered to control the complications and symptoms and reducing the discomforts associated with it.
